Lambda Chi Alpha in the Community
North American Food Drive
Phi Delta Zeta has been an active participant
in Lambda Chi Alpha's North American Food Drive,
the largest fraternity philanthropic event in
the world. Brothers traverse the suburbs of Baltimore
distributing bags, supplied by Walmart, in November,
stopping by to pick up canned and dry goods for
the needy. Over the last year Phi Delta has raised
nearly six tons of food for North County Emergency
Outreach Network, an emergency shelter close to
campus.
Red Cross Blood Drives
This year, Phi Delta Zeta assisted the American
Red Cross in putting on its semi-annual blood
drive at UMBC. Although not the ones to draw the
blood, brothers assisted Red Cross staff in preparing
the site, registering and recruiting members,
and supporting blood donors.
Car Bash
Continuing with the new tradition, this year,
Phi Delta held its annual Car Bash to raise money
for the North American Food drive. This stress-relieving
event, brought to you by Crazy Ray's, allowed
people to take out any aggression they had on
the car. Whether via sledgehammer, baseball bat,
or crowbar, many students relieved their stress
for finals. To prevent injury, all potential dangerous
items (i.e glass, fluids) were removed from the
car. In addition to raising some money for the
drive, it also attracted many people just to see
what all the commotion was about.
ADA – American Diabetes Association
We have devoted hundreds of hours to help out with the local office with the organization’s largest events – The Tour de Cure in the Spring and the City of Baltimore Run/Walk. Along with helping to put on the events, we talk with the program participants to provide encouragement and engaging conversations during and after the events.
Ronald McDonald House
Recently, we have chosen to brighten children’s holidays who are stricken with disease in the city of Baltimore. Alumni and active brothers get together for a Santa Clause photo shoot to be put on for the kids around the holidays.
